The exhibition will run until 26 May 2024.
The MIAZ BROTHERS, the brothers Roberto (1965) and Renato (1968), who have been working on the theme of perception and the relationship between reality and imagination for years, arrive at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna, from 24 February to 26 May 2024, with Reality: Optional. Miaz Brothers with the Masters of the 20th century, a conceptual exhibition project in which their experimental approach to portraiture is confronted for the first time live with the great masters of the 20th century present in GAM’s public art collection.
Alongside a selection of masterpieces from the permanent collection chosen in agreement with the museum’s curator – Afro, Giorgio de Chirico, Filippo de Pisis, Pericle Fazzini, Renato Guttuso, Carlo Levi, Mario Mafai, Fausto Pirandello, Auguste Rodin, Scipione and others – the two artists will exhibit some of their very personal versions of the paintings chosen, together with other previously unseen works in which the original subjects are reproduced completely out of focus. In a world where technology chases high-definition images and we are continually stimulated by pre-packaged visions, the Miaz Brothers will bring to life enigmatic subjects, never quite definable, in a cultural polemic with current events, with the aim of creating a relationship of aesthetic and communicative continuity between their contemporary sign and the style of the original works.
It will be the spectator who will have to attempt to give a complete definition of the images through his or her own memory and imagination. His or her active intervention will constitute the essential element of an exhibition built on the theme, much felt and debated today, of Post-truth, a term that has been widely addressed and developed in recent years through which we have defined those pieces of news that, although false, are believed to be true by a significant number of people called upon to evaluate them on the basis of their own emotions and prejudices, without giving credit to objective facts and data, suddenly deprived of their meaning and importance.
The exhibition is promoted by Roma Capitale, Assessorato alla Cultura, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali, in collaboration with Wunderkammern Gallery. Organisation by Zètema Progetto Cultura. Curated by Claudio Crescentini and Wunderkammern Gallery.
