From June 5 to June 14, 2025, the Lovespot Gallery in Varese will transform into a corner of contemporary Japan with the exhibition Japan Pop Art—a tribute to the great names of Japanese art and the new voices reshaping the visual language of the Land of the Rising Sun.

The opening event will take place on Thursday, June 5 at 6:30 PM, offering the public a unique opportunity to explore the colorful, ironic, and visionary aesthetics of one of the most globally recognizable art movements. Featuring installations, prints, art toys, and pop reinterpretations of classical art, the exhibition offers a journey between past and present, tradition and innovation.
Masters and New Perspectives: A Dialogue Between Generations
The exhibition creates a dialogue between iconic works by internationally renowned artists and fresh interpretations emerging from a vibrant, hybrid aesthetic. Yayoi Kusama, the undisputed queen of polka dots and Infinity Mirror Rooms, will be featured with some of her most representative pieces, inviting viewers to reflect on the concept of infinity and the dissolution of the self.
Alongside her, the visionary creations of Takashi Murakami—father of the Superflat movement—blend pop culture, spirituality, and manga into an explosion of colors and contemporary symbols. His famous “Flowerball” works and DOB-Kun sculptures will immerse visitors in a Neo-Pop Japanese universe.
The Contemporary Scene: MicroPop, Design, and Playful Art
The exhibition will also feature major figures from the current art scene, such as Tomoko Nagao, one of the leading artists of MicroPop Art, known for blending references to Western classical art with manga, branding, and elements of Japanese consumer culture. Completing the visual experience are the iconic Bearbrick figures—art toys that have become true collector’s items, born at the intersection of art, fashion, and design.
