From 30 May to 20 September 2026, Castel Caldes, in the heart of Val di Sole, will host the exhibition “Da Warhol a Banksy. Pop e Street Icons in Val di Sole”, a journey through the great icons of international Pop Art and Street Art.
Organized by APT Val di Sole in collaboration with Deodato Arte and with the scientific and exhibition support of the museum, the show brings the energy of urban art into an exceptional historical setting: a 16th-century frescoed castle in Trentino.
Stencil: a bridge between past and present
At the heart of the exhibition is the dialogue between the ancient decorations of Castel Caldes and the visual language of Street Art. The common thread is the stencil, a technique that allows images and graphic motifs to be reproduced quickly and precisely.
While today stencil immediately evokes the urban imagery of artists such as Banksy and Obey, the same logic was already used centuries ago to decorate walls and noble interiors. The exhibition therefore invites visitors to see Street Art not as an isolated phenomenon, but as the contemporary evolution of an ancient gesture: leaving a mark in space.
From Warhol to Banksy: the icons on display
The exhibition opens with Andy Warhol, the father of Pop Art, whose reflection on the reproducibility of images deeply influenced contemporary art.
The journey continues with Keith Haring, who transformed the streets and the New York subway into spaces of artistic expression, before moving on to the protagonists of stencil and urban art: Blek le Rat, Banksy and Shepard Fairey, known as Obey.
The exhibition also features Italian and international artists such as Sten Lex, Orticanoodles, Miaz Brothers, Add Fuel, Mr. Brainwash and Mr. Savethewall, interpreters of a direct, popular visual language capable of speaking to different audiences.
An exhibition between castle and urban art
With “From Warhol to Banksy”, Castel Caldes becomes the ideal place to explore the continuity between past and present, between historical decoration and contemporary Street Art. The castle’s frescoed rooms host works and languages born in urban spaces, creating a striking and meaningful contrast.
At the Castello del Buonconsiglio, the work “Peek A Boo” by Mr. Brainwash will also be on display: a poetic scene in which a child and a dog look beyond a wall, inviting viewers to reflect on hope and the ability to imagine new horizons.
